"They say the bad guys are more interesting to play, but there is more to it than that - playing the good guys is more challenging because it's harder to make them interesting." -- Gregory Peck, actor
we were out driving around one day in northern new mexico and were stopped while a scene was shot in the western Shoot Out (1971), starring Peck. they didn't want cars passing on the horizon in the scene. later we went back and found a burnt-out shack, a campfire, and lots of discarded flapjacks. but no movie stars.
though i did meet Peck, because his son and i were friends who double-dated in college (he always got the cute one).
The only time I've come close to someone famous is shaking the hand of a friend of mine who had shaken Prince Charles' hand that morning. And he's not an actor.
Have you written a full account on your blog of your meeting Peck? That would be interesting.
Peck was just over at the college for some function or other and his son introduced me to him. He didn't live too far away. I can't remember anything about our conversation. As far as I was concerned, I was standing there talking to Atticus Finch and it sort of blew my mind.
I haven't met many famous people myself. I had lunch with B.F.Skinner but I don't know if anybody even knows who he is anymore. And I met Peter Ustinov. And my niece (Janet Varney) is sort of a star in my eyes.
