ICONS Radio Hour- Modern Interviews of Classic Movie Stars

Modern interviews of classic movie stars are on ICONS Radio Hour.

Just finished the Arlene Dahl interview. The MGM star reveals that she was first choice to play the shrieking silent film star who has trouble when movies with sound are made, a role that went to Jean Hagen. I'm speaking, of course, of Lina Lamont in the classic Singin' in the Rain (1952).  Dahl turned down the role because she didn't believe she could do the screaming "Brooklynese," as she calls it.

Below is the link to the website for the Dahl interview. There are others, including a chat with Farley Granger, Jamie Niven (a son of David Niven), Jean Simmons and even one of Robert Osbourne.

ICONS Radio Hour is hosted by writer/director John Mulholand and Stephen Bogart.

Update: March 12, 2013
As of this date, ICONS has pulled down the interviews on its website.

Update: March 6, 2014

  • The ICONS Radio Hour is hosted by Stephen Bogart. This interview is of the host discussing his father, actor Humphrey Bogart. You may find it at Kiwi6.com by clicking here.

  1. Hi Java!
Thanks so much for providing the link and letting us know about these interviews. I'm such a big fan of David Niven so I'm looking forward to his the most.

All the best to you in 2013!

  2. Yes, thanks for providing this. I love Hagen in this role; she was perfect!

  3. Hi Java! You are a peach to give us the chance to experience the interviews. Like silverscreenings, I too thought Jean Hagen could not be matched as Lina. Arlene Dahl was very smart to know that her talents didn't match this part.

  4. All interviews (mp3) have been removed from the Icons Radio website as well as iTunes. Did you check before posting your blog entry?

  5. Java, I saw this comment by Anonymous. I went to your link and saw the interviews there, but have not yet listened -- it says you need to subscribe to Itunes and I wasn't sure if that cost anything. I didn't have time to check it out that day, and then my brain must have put it in storage -- LOL! Anyway, the links are there for bunches of actors and such. I'm not sure what Anonymous means.

I'm going to be watching for any further info through your comments.

  6. ClassicBecky and Anonymous, when I posted the link over ten days ago there were several interviews in that blank square where the mp3 player once was.

You did not have to purchase anything, nor go to itunes, nor register nor do anything but push play.

They have not taken down the page, so ICONS radio seems to be having a few technical issues.

  7. ICONS Radio is a part of MODA entertainment. You can contact them on twitter here https://twitter.com/modaent

  8. Hi there! What a great post :) Arlene Dahl is one of my favorite actresses! I can't seem to find the other ICONS Radio interviews. Do you know where I might be able to locate them? I'm specifically interested in the one with John Kerr (another one of my fav actors)... but sadly I can't find it either. It seems like the MODA entertainment website for Icons Radio just displays a blank box.

Thanks for your contribution to Java's Journey.
