Toast of the Town

Let's talk about some of the great classic movie blog information I've stumbled across lately. I'm calling it Toast of the Town for now - the first name of The Ed Sullivan Show.

• 93-year old actor Christopher Lee's recent death sparked a tribute from Will McKinley of Cinematically Insane. This moment in time reminded him of how the demise of any classic film star fits into our existence. He notes that, " death is a way of life for old movie buffs."

• The author of Now Voyaging echos McKinley's post by saying, "...being a classic film fan isn’t just a hobby for the weekends but rather it is a way of life. "  She also refers to classic movies fans as guardians of many aspects of the past, including a sense of community.

•  June 26th sees the start of the Classic Movie History Project Blogathon  at Movies Silently.

• The Judy Garland Museum had a grand Oz celebration during the week of the actress' birthday. I didn't know it existed. Clearly it's time for a (yellow brick) road trip.

• The Classic Series at your local Cinemark is still on-going. Double Indemnity reaches theaters on July 20-22nd. Click here for more information. I'm certainly going!

•  Keeping a blog going is time-consuming, but we all love it! Still, when you must add in social media, like Twitter and Facebook, life gets hectic. • Kimberly Truhler of GlamAmor is hosting another  film and fashion event at the Annenberg Beach House in Santa Monica on July 21st. The inspiration this time is Audrey Hepburn. How have I not known about this series?!

• GlamAmor also gives an informative tour of the Annenberg Beach House and a bit of the life of Marion Davies on Youtube.
• For some reason, the post comparing the classic Danny Kaye version of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty with the Ben Stiller remake has been popular on Java's Journey this week.
