Link: 5 Reasons The Greatest Movie Villain Ever is a 'Good' Witch/ Update: Link fixed

Cracked.com has some weird articles, usually listing the greatest spies EVER! or the most clueless movie characters EVER!

This time they are listing why Glinda the Good (Billie Burke) in The Wizard of Oz (1939), who appears to be a helpful mentor to the vulnerable main character Dorothy (Judy Garland), is actually a selfish and horrible manipulator.
WWW: Quit staring at me and watch your back, Dorothy!

  • Read the comments under the article at Cracked.com as well. This one's my favorite so far. Written by TheZacula

"Are you a good witch or a bad witch?"
"I'm not a witch at all! Are YOU a bad witch?"
"No, silly. I'm a good witch. Bad witches are ugly!"
"Waitaminute, then why'd you ask if I was a bad witch?"
".......say, do you wanna go kill somebody?"

  1. Java, that Cracked article is a hoot! Never thought of it that way! LOL! I wasn't able to pull up your own link though -- it kept me kicking me to the dashboard (I guess that is the Blogger verrsion of being kicked to the curb!) TheZacula's comment is hilarious too...I'd like to see your post, but I'll have to come back later. It's getting on to midnight and I'm fading out! Fun post!

  3. Glad you got that fixed, Java, mainly for your remark about Glinda: "the little girl is Glinda's unwitting pawn in the 'chess match' she's having with the green one." LOL! Your Wizard articles are courageosly hilarious in lampooning a national treasure of a movie. (I have to say though that I really hated The Wiz...) I did an article like this one on my blog late one night, thinking about The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I ADORE that movie. But like Wizard, which I also ADORE, it is fun to think about it and say "Huh"? after you get older.

Wizard is like a modern-day Odyssey, with poor Ulysses being buffeted about and tortured with dreams of home by the Greek gods who have their own agenda. LOL! This was such a fun take on the good witch - at least the bad witch was honest about just wanting to snuff out Dorothy and get the shoes!
